TUKA brings together Tooro people and friends of Tooro across the United Kingdom: to meet, to keep our language and culture alive, and to welcome the Omukama to the Empaako Festival 2027.
A home from home for Batooro in the United Kingdom
TUKA is a non-profit association run by and for Tooro people living in the UK. We meet through the year, pass on our stories, riddles and language to children growing up here, support members in times of joy and loss, and keep our ties with the Tooro Kingdom.
Culture, community and a voice for members
Hakyoto Mkairirizi
A monthly evening of stories, riddles and proverbs around the fire, for elders, parents and children.
Christmas get-together
The whole community in one room at the end of the year: food, music and dance.
Elections
Members elect the TUKA executive committee at the general meeting.
Empaako Festival
Our biggest celebration, to which TUKA invites the Omukama of Tooro to the UK.
Initiatives under way
Empaako Festival 2027 and the Royal Visit
Raising the money to host the Empaako Festival 2027 and to welcome the Omukama of Tooro to the United Kingdom: the venue, the royal party's travel and hospitality, performers, sound and staging. Every member household is asked to pledge.
TUKA Welfare Fund
A fund members draw on in hard times: to support a family at a bereavement, including repatriation to Tooro, and to help members newly arrived in the UK find their feet.
