Empaako Festival 2027: we are inviting the Omukama

At the general meeting in May, members voted to hold the Empaako Festival in the United Kingdom in July 2027, and to invite His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro to be with us.

Empaako is the tradition of pet names that every Mutooro carries: Abwooli, Adyeri, Akiiki, Amooti and the rest. Calling someone by their empaako is a greeting of warmth and respect, and it binds us to one another wherever we live. A festival in its name is a chance for our children to see that tradition alive, here, among hundreds of Batooro.

The organising committee will meet for the first time in October. We need volunteers for the venue, hospitality, performances, stewarding and fundraising. If you can help, get in touch.
